The world of Genshin Impact is expanding far beyond gaming. In a move that has electrified both anime lovers and gamers, Hoyoverse has officially confirmed a Genshin Impact anime and a Genshin Impact movie in collaboration with the legendary animation studio Ufotable.
First announced in late 2022, the anime project initially appeared in a stunning concept trailer (watch here) during the Version 3.1 livestream. But in August 2025, Hoyoverse doubled down—revealing that a cinematic movie based on Genshin Impact is also in production.
This isn’t just a side project—it’s a massive leap toward making Teyvat a full-scale multimedia universe, much like Final Fantasy, Pokémon, or The Legend of Zelda.
Genshin Impact Anime – The Long-Term Ufotable Collaboration
When Hoyoverse and Ufotable announced their “long-term partnership,” it sent shockwaves through the anime industry. Ufotable, famous for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fate/Zero, and God Eater, is known for breathtaking animation quality, cinematic fight choreography, and emotional storytelling.
The anime adaptation of Genshin Impact promises to bring beloved characters like Lumine, Aether, Zhongli, Raiden Shogun, and Nahida to life with unmatched visual fidelity. While the initial concept PV revealed lush landscapes of Mondstadt and Liyue, fans expect later arcs to explore Inazuma, Sumeru, and even the mysterious Celestia.

Genshin Impact Movie – Cinematic Ambition Confirmed
In August 2025, Hoyoverse officially confirmed that a Genshin Impact movie is in the works—also with Ufotable. This marks the first major animated film for the franchise. While details are scarce, industry insiders speculate that it may cover the Archon War or the Traveler’s initial arrival in Teyvat.
Why a Movie Matters
A feature-length movie opens Genshin to a broader audience—people who may never have played the game but love epic fantasy adventures. If handled well, it could become a box-office hit and push Genshin further into mainstream pop culture.

Production Timeline – Why We’re Still Waiting
Both the anime and movie are classified as long-term projects.
Based on Ufotable’s past production schedules, fans may not see a full anime season until 2026 or 2027. The movie might release sooner if it’s already in advanced production stages.
Insiders point to Ufotable’s simultaneous commitments to Demon Slayer’s final arcs as a reason for the slow pace. Hoyoverse has also been tight-lipped—likely to avoid overhyping before a concrete release window.
Community Reactions & Speculation
On Reddit and Twitter (now X), reactions are a mix of excitement and impatience:
“I’ve waited for this more than I’ve waited for Fontaine updates. If Ufotable touches the Inazuma war arc, I’ll cry.” – Reddit user VisionCollector
Some fans speculate that the anime will adapt the Traveler’s journey in chronological order, while others believe it will feature original storylines that complement the game’s events.
Potential Story Arcs for Anime & Movie
- The Traveler’s Arrival in Teyvat – A natural entry point for newcomers.
- Mondstadt & Liyue Arcs – Political intrigue with Venti and Zhongli.
- Inazuma Civil War – Raiden Shogun’s Vision Hunt Decree.
- Sumeru’s Akademiya Conspiracy – Deep philosophical conflicts.
- The Archon War – A possible prequel movie exploring Teyvat’s ancient history.
Where to Watch When It Releases
While there’s no official distribution confirmation, it’s highly likely that:
- Anime: Will stream on platforms like Crunchyroll, Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video.
- Movie: Could have a theatrical release in Japan, followed by global streaming availability.
